Frequently Asked Questions about Enrolment to St Paul Apostle North School
What age should your child start school?
Children start school in Australia at 5 years of age (they have to have turned 5 by 30 April in their first year of school).
Making an Enrolment Enquiry:
We welcome enquiries at any time. We will be delighted to take you for a tour of our school. There is an opportunity for you to ask questions, talk to us about your child and hear about our school programs. An information pack is available from the school (most of that information can be found on this webpage) and an Enrolment Application Form (also available on this webpage). This can be mailed to you upon request. We also can keep your enquiry on file if you wish so that we can contact you the year before your child is due to start school to advise you of our Open Days and enrolment activities.
Who can apply to St Paul Apostle NORTH? Is the school ‘zoned’?
We accept applications for enrolment from everyone. If there are more applicants than places available in your child’s year, then we must follow the criteria our Catholic Diocese requires, which are:
Firstly Catholics within St Paul Apostle Parish, and siblings of current families.
Then Catholics who live outside the Parish boundaries.
Every year the number of applicants is different and therefore our need to refer to the above criteria varies from year to year. If you belong to another Catholic parish we ask that, as a courtesy, you speak to your local Parish Priest about enrolling at St Paul Apostle NORTH School.
When should you apply for enrolment at St Paul Apostle NORTH?
We take enrolment applications at anytime, and particularly encourage you to apply early in the year before your child is due to start school.
When are the Open Days?
Parents are invited to view the school during our official Open Days early in First Term every year. These Open Days are advertised at the school, St Paul Apostle Church and through flyers displayed at local kindergartens. We also mail out flyers to any parents with children due to enrol who have enquired previously and left contact details.
If you are unable to attend our Open Days we can make special arrangements for you to view the school on a day and time that suits you. Just phone our school office to arrange an appointment 03 9700 6068.
How to Apply to Enrol:
The Enrolment Application Form can be downloaded from the links on this website and is also available from the school office. We recommend you complete and return this form as early as possible in Term One of the year before your child is due to start school. By completing an Application Form you are letting us know that you wish your child to attend St Paul Apostle NORTH School. At this stage no enrolment deposit is required.
After we receive your Application Form:
In Term 1 and 2 we review all the Application Forms received and invite parents and children applying for Prep to attend a “Prep Interview” with the Principal. This is an opportunity for you to tell us about your child and for us to meet them, and for your child to become familiar with the school.
Letters of Offer:
To accept this place at St Paul Apostle NORTH families are asked to sign and return their acceptance to the Principal together with an enrolment deposit. The total amount of the deposit will be deducted from their first year’s school fees.
Also enclosed with the letter of offer is an Enrolment Form that asks for important contact and medical information, together with data the government requires us to collect. We ask that you fill in as much information as possible on this form and return it with your acceptance.
We also require copies of a Certificate of Baptism (if applicable),
an Immunisation Certificate (for Preps),
and a Birth Certificate to be sent with this form or as soon as possible before they start school.
In Term Four a number of orientation activities are planned for the incoming Prep children. This helps them to become familiar with St Paul Apostle NORTH school and to meet and get used to doing activities with their classmates. Their parents also are invited to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee during these activities so that they can meet families from their child’s class.
An Information Night for the incoming Prep families is held at the start of these orientation activities and is an opportunity for parents to ask questions and gather important information about their child’s first year at school. Letters are sent out to families letting them know the dates and times for these orientation activities.
New Children from Other Year Levels
We encourage new students from years other than Prep to attend an orintation morning toward the end of term four, to meet their classmates and become familiar with the school.
How do I organise my child’s uniform ?
There is an onsite uniform shop run by KLAD. The Uniform shop opens for extra days in Term 4 and over the January school holidays to help families organise their child’s uniform.
School Uniforms can also be purchased directly from our suppliers, Klad Sport.
